Witham Town stormed to Ryman North play-off success with a convincing 3-0 win over Harlow Town on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts were well worth their triumph and they will now feature in the Ryman Premier for the first time in their history next season.
Coming into the back of the game following a controversial 1-0 win over Needham Market, which saw plenty of bad blood spilt between the two, Witham rose to the occasion again here with an excellent performance, proving too strong for Harlow.
Seb Murfet got the hosts off to the perfect start as he hit an unstoppable volley after 26 minutes and man of the moment, Lee Townrow, the central figure behind the semi-final controversy (after playing for Witham against Needham while on loan from the Marketmen), soon added a killer second seven minutes later with a cool finish.
Witham saw skipper Paul King sent off for two bookings in the 65th minute but that didn’t matter as the hosts comfortably saw off the challenge from Harlow with substitute Shamido Pedulu slamming home a third and final goal with four minutes left to play.
The result comes as a spectacular achievement as well as relief to Witham, particularly seeing as they only lost out on automatic promotion a week earlier after leading the pack on the final day.
