Walsham Le Willows entertain Brantham Athletic at Summer Road Paul Smith

Paul Smith has been involved in non-league long enough to know when you have just got lucky.

And the Walsham-le-Willows boss was man enough to admit that was exactly the case at Summer Road on Saturday, as his side snatched all three points against Brantham in an entertaining Thurlow Nunn Premier Division clash.

“We were fortunate to get all three points,” he said.

“It was a great goal by Luke (Austin) to win it for us but on the balance of play Brantham didn’t deserve to lose. A draw would have been a fair result.

“It’s important we beat teams in and around us and if we can string another couple of wins together, suddenly we will be in a much better position.

“We signed Ryan Foster from Norwich United and we’ve got some real quality in the side now. We will be looking to finish high.”

Brantham boss Paul Abrahams, however, cut a frustrated figure at the end of the game.

“There was only one team in it in the second half, but we’ve come away with nothing,” he said.

“It’s been happening in our last four or five games and it has to stop. We can’t keep being the better team and keep coming away with nothing.

“Of course I’m pleased with the way we played in the second half especially, but we are where we are in the table and people have to step up.”
