Rovers announce new boss

Football: Stanway Rovers are pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Downey as first team boss at the Hawthorns, with immediate effect.

Chairman Roy Brett said: 'I am delighted that Steve has accepted the position.

Football: Stanway Rovers are pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Downey as first team boss at the Hawthorns, with immediate effect.

Chairman Roy Brett said: 'I am delighted that Steve has accepted the position. We have known Steve for many years and he played for the Rovers for three seasons from 1996.

“Steve is one of the best-known football coaches in Essex, and comes to us with some 20 years experience of developing, managing and coaching football from the grass roots through to excellence level, and has a tremendous knowledge of football development initiatives on a local, regional and national level.”

Downey is a UEFA 'A' Licence Coach, and was the Football Development Manager at the Colchester United Community Sports Trust until 2007 when he joined Colchester United FC as Head of Youth Development.
