Leiston have signed former Ipswich Town defender Jack Ainsley, from Lowestoft Town, the versatile performer joining until the end of the 2017-18 season.

After joining the Trawlerboys in the summer of 2013, Ainsley finished last season as the Players’ Player of the Year and was also Lowestoft’s leading scorer. He made four appearances for Ipswich.

Blues Chairman Andy Crisp said: “We are pleased to announce the arrival of Jack Ainsley at Leiston Football Club.

“Jack is a player who our manager Richard Wilkins has been tracking for some time, we spoke to him pre-season but he opted to sign for Lowestoft Town as they are competing at a higher level.

“Jack is a very ambitious player and wanted to play at the highest level possible. He has found it difficult lately with all the travelling and balancing this with his work and a young family especially with a recent new addition to his family so he decided enough was enough.

“We are excited by Jack’s arrival and this shows our intent to give it a final push for one of those all important play-off places. Jack has agreed a deal until the end of the 2017/18 season. I’m sure you will join me in wishing him a long and enjoyable stay at Leiston Football Club.”

Meanwhile, Blues boss Richard Wilkins could sign Curtis Haynes-Brown, once he returns to full fitness.

The Ipswich-born left-back, 26, recently left Macclesfield Town at the end of his contract, having ruptured his Achilles tendon during pre-season.

Ex-Lowestoft man Haynes-Brown warmed up with the Blues, before their game with VCD on Saturday and Wilkins said: “I know he would be interested in signing and we would not rule that out, but the most important thing is getting himself fit first.”
