Woodbridge Town are on the look-out for a new manager once more after Lee Elliston quit the post.

The former Burnham Ramblers first-team coach, has left Notcutts and returned to Burnham – this time as first-team manager.

It leaves the Woodpeckers with no first-team boss just three weeks before the start of the new Thurlow Nunn First Division season – the team having been relegated from the Premier Division last season.

“The offer from Burnham came out of the blue,” said Elliston, who joined Woodbridge at the start of the year.

“Burnham approached Woodbridge.

“They had just lost their first-team manager, Keith Wilson, to Heybridge Swifts and they approached me.

“I used to be the coach at Burnham, but the chance to be first-team boss and pit myself up against the likes of Needham Market and AFC Sudbury in the Ryman League is too good an opportunity to turn down.

“Of course I was disappointed to give John Beecroft (the Woodbridge chairman), the news and I didn’t take the Burnham job lightly and without giving it lots of thought about what I wanted to do.

“For me Woodbridge was always a three to five-year plan.

“But going back to Burnham, a club I know so well, this time as boss, was too tempting.

“I like to think I helped Woodbridge progress. They are still in a transition period. I wish them all the best.”

Woodpeckers chairman John Beecroft said: “I’m gutted, obviously.

“But Lee goes with our best wishes.

“Obviously with the new season just around the corner, the timing couldn’t really have been much worse.

“I didn’t see it coming and in fairness I don’t suppose Burnham saw their manager moving to Heybridge either.

“But now we need a new manager and I’m inviting applications for the post.”
