LEISTON have swooped to sign Simon Head from Brantham as they prepare to face Fleetwood in this weekend's huge FA Cup first round date.

For Leiston chairman Andy Crisp, Head's signature is a big boost.

“We have one or two midfielders carrying knocks and next week against Fleetwood we will be without Stuart Boardley, who is suspended.

“Simon Head isn't cup-tied and as Brantham have de-registered him, there was no transfer fee involved.”

Head joins his brother at a Leiston club which is really buzzing.

Carl Chenery's side have a full week off, thanks to the Ridgeons League, who offered them assistance ahead of Saturday's date.

“Our game against Wroxham has been postponed and our youth game on Thursday,” Crisp added.

“The Ridgeons League gave us the option to call it off, to allow us to prepare for the FA Cup clash. We thank them greatly for that and I know Carl (Chenery) and Ian (Smith) are grateful for the extra time to prepare.

“We will hopefully now go and do the Ridgeons League proud on Saturday.”

It has been a whirlwind week for Crisp and everyone at Leiston after their dramatic victory at Lewes last Tuesday night, with the euphoria obviously dampened after the arrest and charging of their star winger Danny Cunningham over drugs offences.

“We are all very disappointed over what has happened with Danny,” Crisp said.

“But I just want to say my thoughts and the thoughts of the club are with Danny's family at this very difficult time for them.”

A crowd of 1,400 is expected this weekend. Fleetwood have received 250 tickets and are expected to sell them all. But the game is not all-ticket, neither will it be featuring on any television coverage or highlights package.
