WHILE postman Trevor Wardlaw begins his task of delivering the goods at Claydon, the chairman of his former club has given the well-travelled manager a glowing tribute.

Wardlaw was only associated with Metaltec SIL Senior Division Ransomes Sports since the summer after leaving Framlingham Town at the end of last season. But he made a big impression at Sidegate Avenue.

He worked with manager Peter Gorham before handing in his resignation late last month.

Ransomes chairman Alan McDougall said: “We were all surprised - and very disappointed to lose Trevor.

“He added so much.

“Trevor's knowledge of local football and players is extraordinary and he brings a different perspective to the game, reminding us that it is for enjoyment that we all do it.

“His team talks were spot-on and the lads soon realised just how perceptive and knowledgeable he is.

“Trevor gained their respect in an instant.

“He is a unique character and although never approaching the task with anything less that full commitment, there was always a lighter side to things.

“He was always quick to see that - and make sure we all knew.

“I have been a huge Wardlaw fan for many years and so pleased to get him to Ransomes. He may have been a bit jaded at that point and if we have managed anything, I think we have rejuvenated him and he has regained his appetite.

“The offer from Claydon, with the potential it holds, was just too tempting and we wish Trevor and Claydon every success.

“I cannot leave out his partner Karen. It was absolutely terrific to have her involved and she will be missed just as much, I guarantee.”

Wardlaw, who has also managed Stowmarket Town, Old Newton and East Bergholt began life with his new club Clayton with a SIL First Division 2-1 victory over Stanton on Saturday.
