Despite leading Felixstowe & Walton United to their most successful season ever, boss Kevin O'Donnell insists the Seasiders have more to give in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

United enjoyed a fine campaign last term, finishing third in the league as well as progressing to the finals of the Suffolk Premier Cup and the League Cup, where they lost to Bury Town (4-1) and Newmarket Town (2-1) respectively.

He said: “Last season was the highest league position the club had ever achieved, but the reality is that we walked away with nothing.

“Was it a good season? In terms of a league finish it was, but in terms of winning trophies I’m not sure it was because that was one of our aims.

“Winning things is what you go into competitions for and we’ve sat down and highlighted what we need to do to achieve our targets for the forthcoming season, where we need to bolster. I’m happy with the squad I’ve got.”

Other than the departure of midfielder Andy Crump, O’Donnell has kept the nucleus of last season’s squad while adding versatile duo Sheridan Driver and Stuart Ainsley from Needham Market and Lowestoft Town respectively as well as player-assistant manager, Danny Bloomfield.

“We’ve wanted to get all three in for a while,” admitted O’Donnell.

“Stuart is a Felixstowe lad while Sheridan and Danny have played for the club before which was an important factor. We wanted local players back and all three will add strength and quality to the squad.”

O’Donnell hopes to secure deals for two more targets currently training with the Seasiders, ahead of the new season, which will see Felixstowe face two new additions from Ipswich.

“With Whitton and Ipswich Wanderers now gaining promotion, it brings a higher profile for football in this area,” added O’Donnell.

“I’m sure, like last season, it’ll be another wide open one with five or six teams in contention at the top of the table.”
