KING'S Lynn Stars cemented their place at the top of the Premier League last night with a 46-44 win away to bottom of the table Newport - despite trailing 10-2 after two heats.

Darcy Ward and Kozza Smith suffered falls and exclusions in the opening two heats which helped Newport to a pair of 5-1s. But a superb gate in heat three saw Emiliano Sanchez and Chris Schramm produce a 5-1 of their own, setting up a thrilling meeting as Stars stayed close without getting their noses in front until four heats from the end.

Newport: Kerr 15+2, Lanham 10+1, Fry 6+1, Holder 6, Andersson 4, Mroz 3+1

King's Lynn: Eklof 9, Ward 8+2, Sanchez 8, Smith 8, Topinka 7, Schramm 5+3, Graversen 1.
