The Ashley Jones Memorial meeting, in honour of the young Australian who tragically lost his life in 2005 after a racing accident, pitted two teams with expert knowledge of the Norfolk Arena - the present day Stars side and the team of Legends.

That the final margin was 13 points didn't perhaps illustrate the quality of racing as track specialists popped up in every heat - in this case a special 16 events on the card with eight riders in each team.

Three Lynn riders hit double figures but fans were once again left admiring the burgeoning talent of 16-year-old Aussie, Darcy Ward, who scored nine points.

Olly Allen and Kevin Doolan scored 10 apiece for the Legends, but it was a night for remembering rather than counting scores. A sign of how close the meeting would be came straight away as Ward rescued a share of the opener, diving under Chris Mills on the third lap and coming home behind Allen.

Stars notched a maximum in the reserves race where another 16-year-old from down under, Todd Kurtz, impressed in following Jan Graversen home.

Adam Allott pulled the Legends to within two points with victory in the third, then Doolan squared it when he led former team mate Tomas Topinka across the line in heat four.

Mills made up for his opening race slip by winning a shared heat five but Stars sneaked ahead when the excellent Emiliano Sanchez won a ding-dong battle with Doolan with Ward just a wheel behind in third.

Allott won his second of the night but after eight races there was little dividing the teams.

Doolan showed his mastery of the Norfolk Arena to fend off the attentions of Sanchez. Then Allott wrapped the tapes around his spokes in heat 10 and his 15-metre penalty was food and drink for Ward who took his first win of the night to pull Stars four points clear.

The lead doubled with a second maximum of the evening, courtesy of Graversen and Topinka before Sanchez put the Stars 41-31 ahead with four races remaining.

Topinka scored his first success of the night in a superb heat 13, but only because Allen's engine seized up within yards of the line.

Allen's double points attempt failed when Graversen got past him as Stars completed a 5-1 and with two races left of an extended meeting the result wasn't in doubt.

In the spirit of the meeting Allen and Doolan both chased double points in the final heat, but the brilliant Ward split them in a fitting finale to a quality night's racing.

Stars: Topinka 10+2, Schramm 10+2, Sanchez 10, Graversen 9+2, Ward 9, Smith 5+1, Kurtz 3+1.

Legends: Allen 10, Doolan 10, Allott 7, Harrison 5, Mallett 5, Mills 4+1, Lambert 1, Bugeja 1.
