It looks like we’ll soon be able to cross another name off the runners and riders for the Ipswich Town hotseat – as initial bookies’ favourite Steve McClaren looks set to take charge of QPR.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Rangers are to part company with incumbent Ian Holloway after a 16th place finish which saw them end their campaign with just three wins in nine games.

And apparently the club have already held talks with McClaren about taking the job, which the former England boss is keen to do.

McClaren was installed as the initial bookies’ tip for the top job at Town after Mick McCarthy left, but now seems set to join a growing list of names linked to the job who are either out of the running or highly unlikely to be heading to Portman Road...

- Steven Gerrard: New boss at Rangers.

- The Cowley brothers: Signed new deals at League Two play-off-bound Lincoln.

- Paul Cook: Signed a new deal at League One champions Wigan.

- Tony Mowbray: Reportedly told club he doesn’t want to be considered after winning promotion with Blackburn.

Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst remains the odds-on favourite for the job at 4/7 with Skybet, as he prepares to lead the Shrews into the League One play-offs, starting tonight.
