Crowe never made a senior appearance for the Blues prior to his release at the end of the season, but did earn a surprise call-up to the Wales squad for a pair of friendly games at the China Cup in March.

He left Portman Road at the end of his contract, leaving Bartosz Bialkowski and Dean Gerken as the Blues’ senior goalkeepers. Nick Hayes was also released leaving Harry Wright, son of former Ipswich player Richard, as the next in line.

But Crowe is now set to remain in the Championship with Preston, with reports stating the Whites are set to beat Cardiff to the Welshman’s signature.

Speaking following his call into Ryan Giggs’ squad, Crowe said: “I was a little surprised but I think I’ve worked hard and earned my place there so I’m very happy.

“The coaches down at Ipswich told me about it on Thursday morning and then I spoke with Tony Roberts, the goalkeeping coach there, and now we’re all very excited to see what I can bring to the team.

“Wales have two very experienced goalkeepers (Wayne Hennessey of Crystal Palace and Preston’s Chris Maxwell) and I think I’m coming in as on for the future.

“But hopefully I can make a good impression and stick around.”
