Highly-rated Ipswich Town youngster Kundai Benyu has signed for National League Premier side Aldershot Town, on a month-long loan, subject to completion of paperwork.

Midfielder Benyu, who is 19 on Monday, has yet to make his senior football debut for the Blues and will go straight into the Shots’ squad for their FA Trophy game at East Thurrock on Saturday.

“Kundai is another exciting young player who will add extra depth and quality to the squad,” said Aldershot manager Gary Waddock, of Benyu, who played on trial with Tottenham at May’s Next Generation Series tournament, in Amsterdam.

“He is very good technically and bolsters an area where we are currently short on numbers. “Both (assistant manager) James (Rowe) and myself have seen him develop in the Ipswich Town Academy and we look forward to working with him on this next stage in his development.”

Benyu was twice named as a substitute during the 2014-15 season, but injury has curtailed his progress as did an ‘attitude problem’, which resulted in him having to apologise to manager Mick McCarthy.

Benyu, who is Camden-born but qualifies to play for Zimbabwe said last month: “It’s my fault really. I had an attitude problem last season which put the gaffer off using me but I’ve apologised now and we’re on good terms again so it’s all good now.

“I was out for about four-and-a-half months too so my season last year was a bit stop and start.

“I’m alright now. I’m all fit and well and I’m looking to push to get back in the first-team this season.”

Benyu has been signed as a result of the Shots’ new Boost The Budget scheme, and club director, Tommy Anderson, said: “It is the direct contributions of supporters which have enabled the club to make this signing.

“Every penny donated to Boost the Budget is greatly appreciated, and we want this to be the first of many signings that we can help with.”
