Ipswich Town duo Mick McCarthy and Tyrone Mings have today been rewarded for a superb September by picking up the SkyBet Championship's top divisional awards.
Manager of the Month McCarthy steered the Blues to four wins and a draw last month, including four victories on the trot against Millwall, Brighton & Hove Albion, Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United.
Highly-rated defender, Mings, meanwhile, the division’s Player of the Month, put in a string of impressive displays as Town motored into the play-off places, conceding just two goals in the process.
McCarthy said Mings fully deserved his Player of the Month accolade.
“Tyrone has been excellent for us,” said the Blues boss.
“Crystal Palace made a big offer for him before the transfer window closed but we want him here for the long term.
“He’s a young, exciting player who has made a lot of progress in his time here and it’s great to see that his form has been noticed with this award.
“We’ve acknowledged that as a club too, which is why we offered him a long term deal. He’s done great.”
McCarthy fought off stiff competition from Middlesbrough’s Aitor Karanka, Charlton Athletic’s Bob Peeters and Derby County’s Steve McClaren and wins the award for the first time as Ipswich boss, having picked up the honour on three occasions previously, during his stints in charge of Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Mings, meanwhile, replicates the achievements of Town striker David McGoldrick, who won the player award last September.
The 21-year-old left-back was picked for the award ahead of Blackpool goalkeeper Joe Lewis, Blackburn winger Ben Marshall and Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome.
