Ipswich Town striker Daryl Murphy has signed a new, two-year deal with the club.

The 31-year-old’s contract was due to run out next summer but his form last season has convinced manager Mick McCarthy to tie the big frontman down for the forseeable future.

Murphy formed an effective partnership with David McGoldrick last season – the duo scoring 29 goals between them – and his displays for Town earned a recall to the Republic of Ireland squad.

Murphy follows manager Mick McCarthy in signing a new deal at the club, the Town boss penning a new three-year deal earlier this week.

Murphy’s new contract also offers the player an option to sign for a third year.
