Vanarama Premier side Braintree Town lost 6-0 at home to League One Chesterfield in the First Round of the FA Cup, at Cressing Road, on Sunday afternoon.

Fifteen-goal top-scorer Eoin Doyle gave the Spireites a 20th-minute lead, converting almost on the goalline after Sam Clucas’s shot from a tight angle was parried by Nick Hamann.

The Derbyshire side doubled their lead 10 minutes later, playmayker Jay O’Shea being afforded far too much room on the edge of the box to curl home from 20 yards after Daniel Jones’ left-wing cut back.

Then, on the stroke of half-time, Clucas made it three, tapping home from very close range, after right-back Tendayi Darikwa’s cut-back.

Iron briefly threatened after the restart and Tommy Lee made a good save from Charlie Strutton, moments after referee Brendan Malone had failed to even lecture the goalkeeper for bringing down Jordan Cox on the edge of the box.

Chesterfield increased their advantage on 53 minutes. Darikwa made a strong charge through the middle and, after he was tackled, the ball spun up to former Ipswich Town midfielder Gary Roberts who watched the ball fall, before hitting a sweet left-foot volley from the edge of the box, from 20 yards.

Braintree’s Remy Clerima diverted home Jones’ cross for a fifth goal for Chesterfield, for whom goalkeeper Lee made further good saves from Simeon Akinola (twice) and Jordan Cox.

Doyle made it six with the last kick of the game from Dan Gardner’s pass.
