Kaspars Gorkss tonight appeared to have left Colchester United, to sign for Greek side Ergotelis.
Earlier in the day, U’s manager Tony Humes had insisted that he had heard of no interest in Gorkss, who was at the Essex club on a short team deal.
Humes had been hoping that Latvian international Gorkss would remain at the club for the rest of the season.
But instead, the 33-year-old was tonight unveiled at Greek side Ergotelis as their new signing, on an 18-month deal.
It seems, therefore, that the ex-Blackpool and Reading centre-half has played his last game for the U’s.
This means that Humes will have to make at least two changes to his team, for Saturday’s trip to Bradford.
Elliott Hewitt starts the first of a three-match suspension, for his red card against Leyton Orient last weekend.
Fellow winger Sanchez Watt, and midfielder George Moncur, are the two most likely to contest Hewitt’s place at Bradford.
Filling Gorkss’ shoes will be more of a problem, although versatile defender Alex Wynter is back to health again, after missing the O’s game through illness. He could start at centre-half.,
Midfielder Alex Gilbey, though, will miss out again because of an ankle injury. Gilbey is not expected to return for another two weeks.
Humes is also hoping to complete the loan signing of winger Kenny McEvoy, from Tottenham, before this weekend. McEvoy was expected to put pen to paper last week, but the deal has not yet been finalised.
Humes said: “Kenny has not signed yet. There’s a delay in getting all the paperwork done from the Tottenham end.
“We don’t forsee any problems. Tottenham have agreed to everything, and so it’s just a matter of getting the paperwork finalised
