Alex Wynter could not have wished for a better return to Colchester United, having completed his permanent move from Crystal Palace just hours before kick-off at Peterborough on Saturday.
Wynter played six games on loan with the U’s at the end of last season, helping Joe Dunne’s men to escape relegation.
And now the 21-year-old is back with the U’s, this time on a permanent contract until the end of next season.
“I’m buzzing to back,” insisted Wynter, who played well at left-back in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Peterborough.
“I got a call on Thursday afternoon, saying that there had been an offer, and I came into training on Friday morning, and signed the papers.
“Then it’s all got signed and sealed at 10am today (Saturday morning).
“And there’s nothing better than this, coming back and getting a win with a clean-sheet away from home.
“We weathered the storm for the first 15 minutes, and then got two goals on the break.
“I wouldn’t say we dominated the game, but Peterborough didn’t really hurt us in the second half. It was all happening in front of us,” added Wynter.
Freddie Sears and Elliott Hewitt were on target at London Road, on 54 and 85 minutes.
The U’s return to action at home to Walsall on Saturday.
