Colchester United are sweating on the fitness of Doug Loft, in the build up to tomorrow afternoon's home match against fellow mid-table outfit Carlisle.

Midfielder Loft has suffered a string of injuries, since his switch from Gillingham in the summer of 2016, and has so far only made 14 league appearances for the U’s, although he has been in fine form in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old has started the U’s last four league matches.

“Doug has not trained all week. His hamstring is still sore,” confirmed boss John McGreal.

If Loft fails to make it, then QPR loanee Brandon Comley is the favourite to come into central midfield.

Fellow midfielder Tom Lapslie returned to training on Thursday, after being injured in the warm-up at Yeovil, but Kane Vincent-Young is not expected to figure since he limped off during the 2-0 win over Mansfield last weekend.

“Kane is struggling. It’s touch and go, but this weekend might come too soon for him,” said McGreal.
