Colchester United striker, Kurtis Guthrie, could have an injection to try and help him return to competitive action.

Guthrie bagged 12 league goals for the U’s last season, in his first campaign at the Essex club, until he suffered a serious ankle injury during the home win over Hartlepool at the end of February.

He finally returned to action as an 89th minute substitute during the 1-0 win at Yeovil on September 30, and then played the first 45 minutes of the Checkatrade Trophy home match against Gillingham, just three days later.

But the 24-year-old has since suffered a “setback” in his recovery.

“Kurtis had a meeting with the doctor this week,” revealed boss John McGreal at this lunchtime’s press conference.

“There has been talk of him having an injection to clear it up, in and around the joint area.”

The U’s are away at Coventry City this Saturday. Guthrie will obviously not be involved.
