Wroxham boss David Batch says Brentwood game is not an FA Cup revenge mission

Wroxham boss David Batch insists revenge is not the motivation for his side today when they visit Essex.

The Yachtsmen travel to Brentwood looking to improve on the display which saw them get dumped out of the FA Cup following a 5-0 hiding at Trafford Park in September.

It was a performance which saw Batch part terms with a couple of senior players, but the Wroxham manager says it’s all about showing improvement against the Blues - who sit below them in Ryman Division One North, having played three games less.

Batch said: “We are still a team finding our feet as it is virtually a completely different line up to last season, and there are still areas we can improve on together.

“This is a good sign and while this is not a revenge trip today, there are players who will be playing I expect will want to show they can do much better than their previous performance against them.”

Batch’s boys arrive in TOWIE (The Only Way is Essex) land with no more injury concerns - and plenty of good news coming out of Trafford Park.

Last season’s top goalscorer Paul Cook and captain Graham Challen are now in light training after missing the duration of this campaign.

Matt Daniels is also on the road to recovery following an operation on his hand while Jamie Spellar had a run out in the reserves last week.

One player who will be missing is goalkeeper Remi Matthews. His loan spell from Norwich City has expired and he has been recalled by the Premiership club due to the John Ruddy’s injury at Carrow Road.

His time with Wroxham has allowed one of the star performers of the season, Michael Hilton, time to recover from a niggling injury. The talented shot-stopper will go straight back into league action after playing 90 minutes in last weekend’s 2-1 Norfolk Senior Cup fourth round victory over Dersingham Rovers.

Batch’s side, 15th in the table after gaining promotion in the summer, are two places ahead of Brentwood. However, the Essex side are unbeaten in three league matches.
