Wroxham allowed to stay in Ryman League Cup

Fears that Wroxham might become victims of a miscarriage of justice were ended last night – when they were notified that their Ryman League Cup tie at Concord Rangers has been re-arranged for next Tuesday.

The Yachtsmen were forced to tell the league on Tuesday that they were unable to make it to Canvey Island for that night’s quarter-final because Norfolk was seized up by severe wintry weather – and the coach company, taking police advice, were not prepared to send a driver out.

While motorists all over the county were at a standstill for hours because of snow covered roads which led to a host of accidents, there had been little sympathy from the league, who had advised the club that, as Concord’s pitch was perfectly playable, they would have to try to make it through.

Wroxham feared they would be thrown out of the competition, but have instead been told they must postpone Tuesday’s Ryman League visit to Needham Market and try to play the cup tie then – weather permitting.

“Commonsense has prevailed,” said Wroxham secretary Chris Green last night. “The league have eventually come up with the right decision, but there needs to be further clarification of what the criteria are to postpone a game.”
