HADLEIGH United are hoping it will be third time lucky, after tomorrow’s FA Vase fourth round proper tie at AFC Emley was postponed for a second time.

A pitch inspection was originally scheduled for early this morning, but the Yorkshire club called the match off last night. The tie has now been rearranged for next Saturday, February 2.

Brantham Athletic, meanwhile, will be hoping to beat the weather and play their tie at home to four-time winners Whitley Bay tomorrow afternoon.

The club’s groundsman, Alan Clarke, said he was “overwhelmed” by the support he had received to clear snow off the pitch ahead of the match.

Nearly 30 people, including first-team squad members Ryan Bedingfield, Kieran Lawler, Sean Gunn and Ben Spencer, answered a plea for help and spent more than three hours removing snow on Wednesday night.

The pitch subsequently passed a 1.30pm inspection yesterday carried out by local official Dean Welham.

Clarke, who is also the club’s vice-chairman, said on his Twitter account: “Overwhelmed with the support I got from certain people tonight to clear the Brantham pitch of snow.

“If this game goes ahead it’s down to you people.”

Lowestoft Town joint manager Ady Gallagher likewise took to his Twitter account yesterday to praise the club’s fans.

He said: “Thanks to the wonderful supporters who have helped to clear snow from the Crown Meadow pitch today. Much appreciated.”

Lowestoft are due to host Cray Wanderers in the Ryman League Premier Division tomorrow.

Several of tomorrow’s games have already fallen victim to the weather in the Thurlow Nunn League.

The Premier Division matches off by 10am today were Dereham Town v Stanway Rovers, Felixstowe & Walton United v Mildenhall Town and Thetford Town v Godmanchester Rovers.

The Division One fixtures off so far are Cambridge University Press v Brightlingsea Regent and Newmarket Town v Cornard United.

In the Senior Division of the Touchline SIL three fixtures have already been postponed - Achilles v Grundisburgh, Ipswich Athletic v Ipswich Exiles and Ipswich Valley Rangers v East Bergholt United.

Several matches lower down the SIL have already succumbed to the elements.

More matches are expected to follow suit and be postponed as the day unfolds.
