Underdogs Willis fancy chances of a cup upset

WILLIS may be three leagues below Stanton, but they fancy their chances of causing an upset in the Bob Coleman Cup tomorrow.
The Ipswich-based side, who play in Division Three of the Touchline SIL, entertain Senior Division side Stanton in a third-round tie.
Willis have already beaten Elmswell, who are top of Division Three, 3-2 and mid-table Division Two Bildeston Rangers 9-3 to reach this stage.
Willis manager Nathan Turner, who is also the club’s secretary, said: “As soon as we drew Stanton everyone has been looking forward to the game and we quite fancy causing an upset.
“They will be favourites, but anything can happen in cup football. The boys get a kick out of being the underdogs and we will not be overawed.”
Willis sit seventh in Division Three having won five and lost two matches so far, but will go top if they win their matches in hand.
Turner, who has been manager for 15 months, said: “We are certainly looking to win the league this year – promotion is the minimum requirement – and finishing second will be viewed as failure.”
However, Willis will be without star striker Kieren Joseph, who was once with Gillingham and played in the Ridgeons League for both Hadleigh United and Stowmarket Town.
Joseph, who is suspended, has struck 19 goals in seven league games, including six in an 11-0 win at Coddeham, as well as six in Willis’ two Bob Coleman Cup ties so far.
Turner explained: “I met him in the summer just after he had dislocated his shoulder while on trial at Boston in pre-season.
“He agreed to play a couple of pre-season games to get his fitness up, and then he said he would like to stay until the end of the season.
“He is the leading goalscorer in the whole of the SIL this season. It will put us under extra pressure without him, but we have got good players who can come in.”
Turner said Willis had some good young players such as Josh Lytess, who was at East Bergholt last season, Ryan Wardley, Taurean Hamilton and Aaron West.
“We would like to win on Saturday and will certainly be giving it our best.”
