Rick Andrews hopes Stowmarket Town’s impressive away record can stand up to the test when they visit Godmanchester Rovers tomorrow (3pm), writes Alex Moss.

Stow have won all three of their matches on the road so far this season, and have yet to concede a goal in victories over Framlingham Town, FC Clacton and Great Yarmouth Town.

But Andrews’ men will face arguably their toughest trip of the season to date this weekend, when the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division leaders visit the David Wilson Homes Ground.

“It’s game eight,” the Stow boss said. “We perform better away from home and I think that’s because teams want to actually come and attack us.

“We look forward to the challenge and we know it’ll be a hard game. We had two hard games against them last year and I expect no different.

“We’ll give them every respect they deserve, but at the end of the day we are everyone’s cup final (in this league).

“I’ve got no issue with that whatsoever. It’s music to my ears and it means we’re doing something right.”

Stow and Goddy finished third and fourth in the Premier Division last season and are expected by many observers to occupy places in the top four again in 2018-19.

A Jack Chandler first-half strike was enough to earn Rovers a 1-0 win when the two sides met at the David Wilson Homes Ground back in March, a result which snapped Stow’s nine match winning run in away matches in the Premier Division.

The reverse meeting at Greens Meadow, in May, saw Jon Carver net a memorable late winner as the Old Gold and Blacks battled back from 2-1 down to win 3-2.

Stow’s injured trio Craig Brand, Angelo Harrop and Leon Ottley-Gooch are nearing full fitness, which will make competition for places even stronger, but Andrews does not expect that to be an issue.

“We told people up front that this is a squad and if you buy into it, great,” he said. “There’s no chance any of our players will play every single minute of every game.”
