Hadleigh United boss Shane Wardley is hoping his side can bounce back from last week’s FA Vase defeat to Litle Oakley.

The Millfield side went into the Vase game in good form and, against a team a Step below them in the pyramid, would have expected to win.

However, it didn’t work out that way – a 0-1 defeat condemning Hadleigh to defeat.

It was a disappointing result for Wardley and the Brettsiders, especially after two impressive 3-0 wins over St Margaretsbury in a previous Vase tie, and Wroxham in the Thurlow Nunn Premier League.

This weekend Hadleigh entertain Godmanchester at Millfield in the league.

“Yes, it was a shame at Oakley, although to be honest we didn’t play that badly,” Wardley, who is also a former player at the Suffolk club, said.

“Oakley got their goal and shut up shop a bit. We didn’t take our chances. Simple as that.

“The week before against Wroxham we won by three, but could have won by four or five. So, I’m not worried about the Vase defeat. We just need to keep doing what we have been doing in the last three or four games.”

Godmanchester inflicted defeat on Stowmarket last weekend – a late goal seeing them home in a 3-2 win over Rick Andrews’ league leaders.

The Huntingdonshire side are a match for anyone on their day.

“I’ll have a chat with Rick (Andrews) and try and gleam a bit of info off him,” Wardley said.

“Godmanchester are very capable on their day and we will need to be at our best.”

Scott Sloots has joined Hadleigh from Long Melford and will be in the squad this weekend, although the Brettsiders will be without Charlie Howlett after he was sent off at Oakley.

“We have changed formation since the start of the season and that seems to be working,” Wardley added.

“We need to keep up the same home form we showed against Wroxham and pick up more on our travels.

“Last season we hardly drew any games, but that is what we need to do more away from home, especially. Nick a point here and there.”
