Achilles boss Luke Hillyard is expecting quite a reaction from his side after they crashed to a heavy 1-5 defeat at Bramford United in the SIL Senior Division last Saturday.

The stunning result sent shockwaves through the league with Bramford deserving winners and Achilles, a side who rarely lose, let again by so many, left shell-shocked.

Tomorrow Achilles face another stiff test, away at Crane Sports.

“Well, it was certainly one of those weeks,” Hillyard said.

“I think we have been on cruise control a bit so far this season, yes we were missing a couple of important players too at Bramford, but it was all a bit of a worry to be honest.

“It won’t get any easier this weekend either because Crane are a better side than Bramford.”

Achilles’ defeat was their first of the season and opened up the league title race, although the Ipswich-based side are still most people’s favourites to lift the championship.

“We have too much class in our side to worry about one game,” Hillyard said.

“But it did muck my Saturday night up, it hit me hard to be honest. I partly blame myself and I partly blame the players. I’m expecting quite a reaction from us this weekend.”

Meanwhile Benhall St Mary top the Senior Division table.

The league’s newcomers continued their dream start to life in senior football with a thumping 9-2 victory over Haughley last week. Tomorrow they travel to Capel Plough, which is never an easy place to go and pick up points.

Felixstowe Harpers and Westerfield have a break from league action, as they go head to head in the Suffolk Senior Cup, while Wenhaston entertain East Bergholt.

At the foot of the table the bottom two, Leiston St Margarets and Ransomes Sports drew against each other last week, which did neither of them any favours.

Tomorrow, Ransomes face a very tough trip to Bramford United, who will still be buzzing after their thrashing of Achilles last weekend.

Leiston St Margarets entertain Coplestonians, Grundisburgh entertain AFC Hoxne, Haughley are at home to Henley.
