HAVERHILL Rovers have appointed Ali Shulver as interim caretaker manager for the rest of the season following Peter Betts’ resignation earlier this month.

Betts ended his four-year reign as first team manager of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division outfit on November 3, with Shulver announced as his short-term replacement yesterday.

Shulver has worked within the Rovers youth system for a number of years, managing at Eastern Junior Alliance level and producing a number of players who are now playing at professional academies.

He is also the joint manager of the Cambridgeshire county schools U15 side team.

A club statement said: “Haverhill Rovers Football committee has decided to appoint Mr Ali Shulver as an interim caretaker manager for the remainder of the season.

“With the first team enjoying a fine run of form, it was felt that a mid-season appointment could prove disruptive, and unsettle the current first-team squad.

“On the occasions when Mr Shulver had taken charge this season the first team players had performed well, thus negating the need for a rushed appointment.”

Betts will continue to work behind the scenes in an advisory role, with the club still intending to appoint a new first-team manager for the 2013/14 campaign by the end of the season.

Rovers, whose match away to Ely City on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, are 10th in the league having won five of their last six games – and face Woodbridge Town at home on Saturday.
