Crawford’s side play host to a Leyton Orient XI at the Millfield, kick-off 3pm, with all proceeds going to the Help for Heroes charity.

The match has been organised by Fred Breyer, a Leyton Orient fan who lives in Hadleigh, and it is hoped to become an annual fixture.

Crawford said: “Two years ago we played an Ipswich Town XI and matched them for most of the game before losing 3-1.

“We are at home and are a better and more experienced side now and so we will be going out looking to win the game.”

Admission to the match will be £5 for a family of four (two adults and two children), £4 for adults, £3 for seniors and £2 for under-16s.

There will be a ‘keepy uppy’ competition, costing £1 to enter, with three age groups between 10 and 16 years of age.

Entrants are asked to register at 1.30pm on the day for a 2.15pm start. The final will take place at half time (two from each group) and entrants are asked to provide their own ball.

Hadleigh, whose only pre-season friendly so far resulted in a 6-1 win at Ipswich Wanderers, then face Ryman League Premier Division newcomers Leiston in the Hadleigh Charity Cup on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.

The two sides met last season, sharing six goals in a 3-3 draw.

Crawford added: “That will be an even bigger test for us.”

The Hadleigh side is expected to include three former Leiston players – Neil Calver, Mark Goldfinch an Shane Wardley – who have all signed for the Brettsiders this summer, while ex-Hadleigh keeper Louis Johnson should be between the posts for the visitors.
