Five days that could define Framlingham Town’s season
Framlingham Town face the biggest five days of their season so far – starting tonight!
The Badingham Road outfit, who have for long periods this campaign looked odds-on to gain promotion from the Thurlow Nunn First Division to Step 5 for the first time, entertain March Town United.
However, it’s on the back of two straight defeats, at Norwich CBS and King’s Lynn Reserves.
After tonight’s clash, Framlingham entertain near-neighbours Leiston Reserves on Thursday, then travel to Debenham on Saturday – three games in those five days, with results that could define their season.
“Yes, this week does have every chance to define our season,” said Framlingham boss Mel Aldis.
“We lose all three and we could be out of it.
“But I think other teams will drop points too, so it’s all in our own hands.
“And quite honestly if we can’t get what we need from our last seven games, we probably don’t deserve to go up.”
Framlingham are in third place in the table, three points ahead of Swaffham, but with two games in hand.
With Woodbridge already promoted and Whitton almost home and dry, there is only one promotion place up for grabs.
Three weeks ago Framlingham looked odds-on to go up.
They still are, but will want to settle the nerves.
“I wouldn’t say what we have had in the last two games is a wobble,” Aldis added.
“I thought it would be difficult to get anything from the matches we have just played. We had a host of players missing on Saturday, but we have Danny and Charlie Smith and Alex Ling back against March.
“I’m not quite sure if my glass is half full or half empty. I’ve been working out so many permutations. Our last game of the season is at Braintree Reserves who are just below us. But quite honestly from this position, I’ll be pretty disappointed if we don’t go up.”
This young Framlingham side have done well at Step 6 and it would be a big shock if they didn’t finish off the fine job they have started.
“At least we are not relying on others,” Aldis said.
“It’s in our own hands.”
