Mel Aldis has tonight stepped down as manager of Framlingham Town.

The 57-year-old, who has helped guide the Castlemen into the Eastern Counties Premier Division, is leaving with immediate effect. He spent almost seven years with the club.

“I work in France as many people know and I’m working more and more over there,” he said.

“There is no animosity between myself and the club.

“But quite simply I just can’t give the time that is required for a club at Step Five.

“It’s no good and not fair on anyone if I say I can’t make the first four pre-season training sessions of the season. And I can’t be missing matches during the season. It simply makes sense.”

Framlingham gained promotion last season after finishing runners-up in the Eastern Counties First Division, to Woodbridge.

They have come along way in recent years and have a host of young up-and-coming players on their books.

“I like to think I have left Fram in a better position than I found them in,” Aldis said.

“I have no plans to go anywhere else.

“I think it’s about the first time in more than 40 years I won’t be doing pre-season. It will seem strange.

“But I’ve enjoyed my time and I thank them for giving me a chance. It’s been great.”
