SOME unfinished business can only aid Hadleigh United’s FA Vase dreams, according to manager Stuart Crawford.

The Hadleigh boss has added Needham Market duo James Evans and Danny Bloomfield to his squad ahead of the fourth round proper tie at AFC Emley, which has been postponed for a second time and rescheduled for next Saturday.

Bloomfield signed too late to be eligible for this round – players had to be registered by 12 noon last Friday – but Evans can play.

Crawford said: “Still being in the FA Vase was a big pull for James because he got to the later rounds with Needham Market and knows the buzz that goes with it. They got close to the final, but never got there and he wants to try to finish what he came close to achieving before.

“The same can be said of Neil Calver and Shane Wardley (who were both losing finalists with AFC Sudbury) and Mark Goldfinch and Lee McGlone.”

Both Bloomfield and Evans have signed for the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division club until the end of the season.

Crawford said of Bloomfield: “I tried to sign him before he went to Needham, so as soon as I knew he might be available I spoke to (manager) Danny Laws and was given permission to speak to him.

“I know both Danny and James are hard-working players, and I didn’t think we were doing enough of that in the final third of the pitch.

“Since I have been manager our squad has been quite young, but if you look around now we have got several players in their late 20s and early 30s and that will help us in one-off games.”

Crawford, meanwhile, said of his decision to allow goalkeeper Dan Heath to join Leiston on a two-month loan deal: “We have got two good goalkeepers and so we have let him go on loan with a view to him earning himself a contract.

“Darren Moyes, who is 33 now, has said he wants to commit himself to us for the rest of his goalkeeping days.”
