BRANTHAM Athletic boss Tony Hall believes the Thurlow Nunn League title race is destined to go down to the wire.

Hall, whose side entertain new Premier Division leaders Walsham-le-Willows tomorrow, says his side’s own inconsistency has been matched by that of other potential title contenders.

Since Brantham won 4-1 at Walsham on October 27, the Willows have won eight games in a row to proudly sit top of the table for the first time in the club’s history, albeit on goal difference from Mildenhall Town.

Hall said: “Everyone is throwing it away – the only team who really want to win it at the moment are Walsham-le-Willows.

“They deserve to be top of the league because of the run they have had.

“They league is crying out for clubs to put a run together, but everyone apart from Walsham has been very inconsistent.

“I think it is going to go right to the end of the season and no club will pull away.”

Walsham were tenth when the two teams met at Summer Road when three unanswered second-half goals saw Brantham claim all three points.

“On the day they had chances to score and didn’t take them, but we took our chances and came away winners,” said Hall.

That match was the eighth of a nine-game unbeaten league run, but since then Brantham have won three and lost three.

Hall said: “I don’t think we have played well all season. We have not been consistent, and have recently been through a poor run of form, winning one and then losing one.”

After tomorrow’s match Brantham face another side with ambitions of winning the league when they travel to the Millfield to face Hadleigh United next Wednesday night.

The Brettsiders deservedly won 3-1 when the two sides met at Brantham last month.

“Hadleigh beat us at home and they have some good players in their side and a strong squad and I would expect them to be in the top six or seven at the end of the season,” added Hall.
