CRANE Sports manager Iain Radnor had a tongue-in-cheek message for Ipswich Wanderers boss Glenn Read ahead of tomorrow’s LB Group Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final tie.

Radnor runs his own carpentry company and Read and son Luke, who is a key player for the Thurlow Nunn League Division One side, work for him on a sub-contract basis.

“Although Glenn and Luke work for me we have not spoken about the game,” said Radnor, who is in his second season in charge of the Touchline SIL Senior Division side.

“One of us will end up disappointed and the other elated, but neither of us wants the other to suffer the agony of losing a semi-final.

“But I will issue Glenn and Luke with a DCM (don’t come to work on Monday) if Wanderers win,” he added tongue-in-cheek.

Ipswich-based Crane have a proven Suffolk Senior Cup pedigree, winning the competition in 1971, 1974, 1982 and 1984.

They were also runners-up in 2009, when they lost 1-0 to Beccles Town, but Radnor is not concerned about the past.

He said: “I am aware the club lost in the final in 2009, but I don’t feel under any pressure.

“The pressure is all on them. They are the ones paying money and playing a level above us. We are the underdogs and not expected to win and will go about our business quietly.

“We are looking forward to it. What we have achieved this season is already beyond our expectations.

“We had a good day out at Long Melford in the last round, when we hired a coach out. That was like a mini cup final for us and this is a bonus.”

Radnor, who expects to have a full squad to select from including experienced duo Simon Head and Danny Phillips, added: “I will check on a couple of players on Saturday morning and there will be disappointment for some and elation for others when the team is named.”
