BURY Town’s recent good form has propelled them into the Ryman Premier League play-off positions.

Richard Wilkins’ side head into Essex to play East Thurrock United this afternoon, buoyed by a thumping 5-0 victory at Leatherhead last Saturday – and a decent-looking run-in to the end of the season awaits.

For manager, Richard Wilkins, things couldn’t be going much better.

“Since the New Year, we have been more consistent and the squad I have on Saturday, is about as strong a squad as I could have out,” he said.

“I’m missing Callum Kearns and Elliott Hunter, but apart from that, it’s all good.

“East Thurrock are one of the form teams in the league, but then again so were Margate, and they went and lost to Leatherhead on Tuesday, who we beat last Saturday.

“There is no reason our next seven or eight games can’t bring us a lot of points.

“We’ve played all the top sides away from home and only have teams below us to visit.

“That doesn’t mean those games will be easy because sides are scrapping for points, but our home form is the best in the league and we have sides around us still to come to Ram Meadow.”

After today’s clash in Essex, Bury have two home matches – Margate on Tuesday night, before entertaining Wingate & Finchley next weekend.

One player who has done well for Bury since his arrival is former Mildenhall striker John Sands.

Sands has netted four times in the last three games and Wilkins is pleased with his efforts.

“John has done well for us,” Wilkins said.

“It’s physically more demanding for players to move up levels in non-league, especially strikers, who get a lot of battering.

“But John has done well and he’s learning that players around him are quality players and he doesn’t have to do things himself.

“Strikers like Ollie Mann and Lee McGlone are like Sands, they are goalscorers, and as long as they are playing well, goals will come.”

It promises to be a big week ahead for all at Ram Meadow.
