IPSWICH Town’s chances of signing Jason Pearce, Joel Ward and Stephen Henderson might have been strengthened after it was revealed Portsmouth players and staff would not be paid this month.
Reports from the South Coast have claimed the club’s funds have been frozen by HMRC and that staff would not be paid their January wages.
It couldn’t have come at a worse time for Pompey with one day left of the January transfer window and Town among the clubs interested in making cut-price offers for their squad.
Blues boss Paul Jewell today appeared to accept defeat in his hopes of signing the trio – but admitted he was still in the hunt for one or two of the targets from their divisional rivals. It remains to be seen whether the latest twist in the Pompey saga changes this.
According to the Portsmouth News, administrator Andrew Andronikou revealed the club’s bank account was frozen last Wednesday following the publication of the winding-up petition in the London Gazette.
He added: “It’s a logistical issue. The winding-up petition has left us in a situation whereby the club’s bank account is currently frozen and, as a result, players’ and staff wages have not been paid for January.
“We plan to get a validation order approved by the court tomorrow to address this.”

While i feel sorry for the pompey situation it is one that they have got themselves into listening to what players are saying though on the transfer banter if we do get any of the targets from them then we will have players that are committed as they are even with their present club in the state it is,they should be applauded in my view we could do with a few of our players standing up to be counted they know who they are

I didn't like it when we had to sell players cheaply, when we went into administration, and I don't like it now, when we are attempting to do the same to Portsmouth. Football has much to warrant the tag of the beautiful game, this isn't one of those attributes, and even though we would benefit from it, I still remember how I felt when it happened to us, and I have every sympathy for Pompey fans, who deserve better than for this to be happening to their club.

I'm not sure if this helps as get the players? If HMRC have frozen their bank accounts, does that mean that any transfer money cannot be paid into the accounts? I think they may apply to have this reversed so that staff can be paid, but it would take a few days, and hence go beyond the transfer deadline?? Does anyone know? Oh and just a thought maybe we could bid for the three players and the manager!! He seems to have conducted himself with great dignity in what must be a very frustrating situation and seems to be a manager with great potential and a good coach as well!!

PJ get on the Phone get a bid accepted and arrange to meet with the players tomorrow and get a deal done sooner rather than later . Weve been talking about this deal for weeks now and we havent even had the bid accepted as yet . Things are going to have to move at an an alarming rate tomorrow if the deal is going to be done .

if portsmouth steal players from other clubs and pay them over the top wages then its what happens, on the gates they get there is no way they can pay the wages they pay, its not first time for portsmouth, they should be relagated as punishment too,,
