TWO-goal Town hero Jay Emmanuel-Thomas believes an Ipswich win was coming – even if the 5-1 victory over league leaders West Ham caught everyone by surprise.
The former Arsenal man produced his best performance in an Ipswich shirt with two second half goals to cap a memorable night for the Blues.
And Emmanuel-Thomas said recent improved showings against Blackpool and Leeds had given confidence to the dressing room.
He explained: “It was a great performance from the boys and I think it has been coming for a long time.
“We have played well recently but trying not to concede was always the problem. Today we only conceded one, but ended up scoring five which was brilliant.”
And Emmanuel-Thomas – whose double followed first half goals from Michael Chopra, Daryl Murphy and a penalty from Lee Martin – paid special tribute to his defensive team mates who have come under fire this season.
He added: “The defence was great. (West Ham striker) Carlton Cole is difficult to handle and they did a really good job.”

Well said Brian Betts! But we'll never shut them up, they like the notoriety, probably all they've got to live for.

Only Rob Steroo could find a negative to comment on after a 5-1 win against the league leaders. Typical.

Couldn't agree more, and as for Carlton Cole, a very tricky customer but we got him subbed in the end. All of our players, 10 out of 10.

A very poor performance from West Ham. Quite lacklustre in parts, and they struggled to find their usual momentum. Nonetheless, they will no doubt be feeling very fortunate this morning, as a much more competent and clinical opposition could have scored atleast eight.

Emmanuel-Thomas is beginning to play like a latter day Dalian Atkinson. Hopefully Town's clueless manager and intolerant 'supporters' will begin to appreciate what he can do - rather than bemoan rather absurdly about what he cant do

Great team performance that should ensure the usual suspects have an away day. Pleased for the defence too and for Paul Jewell who has taken a lot of stick of late.
