Cole Skuse says the new-look Ipswich Town team will be looking to turn good performances into wins as soon as possible.

Reflecting on yesterday’s 1-0 loss at Rotherham, which followed an opening day 2-2 home draw with Blackburn, he said: “It’s a huge disappointment. We’ve dictated the game for large periods but that’s almost irrelevant because you have to go on and win the game when you dominate it for that long. You definitely don’t want to be going on and losing.

“We’ve dominated large chunks of the first game against Blackburn too. We have to turn that into wins as soon as we can.”

He added: “We’ve had a very high turnover of players, we’ve got new staff and you can see what we’re trying to do.

“I’m not going to preach to anyone to be patient because, at the end of the day, we want results.

“But it’s not going to happen straight away. You have to give players a chance to get up to speed and get used to what we do.”

Town now face the long trip to League Two side Exeter City for a League Cup first round tie on Tuesday night.

“To say we are overdue a cup win would be polite I think,” Skuse joked.

“In couple of weeks time we don’t want to be saying ‘the win’s going to come, the win’s going to come’ – we need to get that win as soon as we can.

“Not just for ourselves as players, not just for the staff, but for the fans who have travelled and were brilliant. We want something to grab hold of.”
