Ipswich Town play their first pre-season friendly of the summer tomorrow, when Mick McCarthy’s men face League of Ireland side, Drogheda United, in a friendly at United Park.

Here are seven things you may not know about the Irish side.

Former Colchester United midfielder and coach Mark Kinsella is Drogheda’s first-team coach.

Kinsella, began his career at Colchester, making 256 appearances and scoring 35 goals before moving on to Charlton and, later, Aston Villa, West Brom and Walsall.

Drogheda are based in County Louth, are supporter-owned and are nicknamed The Drogs.

The Drogs play at United Park and were founded in 1919.

Drogheda reached the second round of the UEFA Champions League in the 2008-09 season, eventually bowing out to Dynamo Kiev over two legs.

They played in the fiorst round of the UEFA Cup in the 1983-84 campaign, going out 14-0 on aggregate to Tottenham.

The Drogs have won one League of Ireland Premier Division title, one FAI Cup and two League of Ireland cups.

Current Drogheda players Sean Thornton and Stephen Elliott played under Mick McCarthy at Sunderland, the latter also having a spell with the now-Blues boss at Wolves.

Drogheda play in claret and blue.
