SUFFOLK football fans will get a chance to see a local star return to the local soccer scene when James Scowcroft makes his home debut for Bury Town on Tuesday evening for the visit of Kent side Cray Wanderers (kick off 7.45pm).

The former Ipswich Town hero, who has also had spells with Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Leyton Orient, has joined the Ram Meadow ranks for their Ryman Premier Division campaign.

The ‘Blues’ have made an unbeaten start to the new season, collecting 11 points from their first five matches, including wins over Tonbridge, Maidstone and Aveley.

Bury had been hoping to secure the signing of Scowcroft, who lives in the nearby village of Stanton, before the start of the season but had to wait until last Friday before the deal could be concluded.

Trevor Collins, Bury Town’s Director of Football, was delighted to finally get his man: “This is a fantastic addition to the first-team squad and sends out a big statement of the club’s intentions, especially following the bright start we have made in the Ryman Premier League.

“The experience James has will be a huge asset to the younger players and I am sure he will continue the great work carried out by Gavin Johnson during the past three years.”

Scowcroft came off the bench for Bury in their 0-0 away draw on Saturday at promotion-chasing Wealdstone, and will be looking to make his mark for his new club on Tuesday, as Bury Town look to continue their good start to the season.
