IPSWICH TOWN: Portman Road is set to be lit up by the 2012 Olympics Games.
Blues chief executive Simon Clegg is working towards involving the football club in the festivities in two years time.
Chief executive of the British Olympic Association before becoming Town’s owner Marcus Evans’ right hand man at Portman Road, Clegg wants to see the pre-Games torch relay major on Ipswich.
“And if that’s the case we will offer free use of Portman Road,” said Clegg.
“The torch will originate in Greece as usual and will travel around the UK.
“If it stays in Suffolk overnight then hopefully Portman Road will be an overnight base.
“I’m working on a number of ideas and have some up my sleeve how the football club can be involved in some way or other.”
And Clegg, who visits Sir Seb Coe on a regular basis in his position as a member of the athletics committee sub group board, sees Ipswich offering more – perhaps in the provision of training facilities.
“Ipswich Council are working hard to try and secure a link and for different countries to come and train in the town – and the area.
“We have a clear commitment to 2012 and to the local community.”
In his office at Portman Road, Clegg has the original torch used at the Barcelona Olympics and Town fans could well have a chance to take a close look at the 2012 torch as the tension builds to the much-anticipated Games.

As an ignorant, tedious, miserable person, I cannot see and choose to ignore any positive impact on enthusiastic, positive people from the town who would love to be part of this once in a lifetime experience. There will be no benefit to the local economy (hotels, shops, pubs and restaurants etc) not to mention any prestige or local civic pride. No, I am always right and you lot are lucky to have me here to explain it to you.

Oh dear Elvin, can't take criticism of the galloping major and your eulogistic writings? Which aren't always so hot anyway, could you interpret for a simple minded reader what quote Clegg wants to see the pre Games torch relay major on Ipswich unquote. This is in the paragraph where you refer to Clegg as the former chief executive of the British Olympic association, oh curses, I've done it again.

Hello Town fans. Ted here, father of Jed. I felt I simply had to write to apologise for the letters written by my son, Jed Scott. He has always been a backward and somewhat difficult child. He’d lack attention and would prefer to point at aero planes. As a youngster he showed no social skills and has never understood ‘sport’ His idea of fun is to chase his younger sister. Fortunately for us, his sister can run faster. His Mother Delia and recently appointed step Uncle, Stephen as you’d expect, are oblivious. I will be monitoring his emails and ask you to please take pity on such a poor deluded sole. Up the Town, Ted Scott.

So Clegg was chief executive of the British Olympic association, well well, I don't think any of us knew that. Any chance they'll take him back in due course so we can have a chief executive who concentrates on football and not outside interests? Then he could visit SIR Seb Coe even more often.

Scottie old boy Simon Clegg is trying to conjure up enthusiasm and optomism unlike the continuous dire boring rubbish you spout on here on a too regular basis..when is anyone going to shut you up?..This paper and this site is being made a mockery of by the likes of you..If it is not outright venom then you revert to purile scarcasm, both of which make you look such a fool..

Clegg getting carried away again, think power has gone to his head. You want to take a leaf out of Roy Superman Keanes book and show modesty, calmness and total gentlemanly behaviour, not outrageous, rediculous pipe dreams.
