IS it written in the footballing Gods?
Will Jordan Rhodes be back at Portman Road next season, for newly-promoted Huddersfield Town, and give the Super Blues a first-hand look at what they have been missing?
The man who many Blues fans believe made the worst transfer decision in recent years might have gone but Roy Keane’s gaffe lives on.
Rhodes celebrated promotion with the Terriers after Saturday’s dramatic penalty shoot-out play-off win over Sheffield United at Wembley.
But the champagne had barely been uncorked when the spotlight quickly fell on whether Rhodes might bypass Championship football and head straight to the Premier League.
His 40 goals in League One have made him one of the hottest properties outside the top flight and Huddersfield have a fight on their hands keeping hold of him.
Had they failed in the play-offs for the third consecutive year, Rhodes would have unquestionably left.
Ironically, the fact that they are now a Championship club might still not be enough.
Premier League clubs will come in for him, Fulham have been linked with a £5 million move, and the Terriers might think selling their top asset could help build their squad next season. But they certainly don’t need to sell and chairman Dean Hoyle was right to insist they have the power.
When asked if he thought Rhodes would line up for his club next season, Hoyle was coy and said any buyer would have to cough up £50 million.
While the chairman’s valuation might have been a little tongue-in-cheek, it is clear he won’t accept anything other than a massive offer. It might be player and club have a behind-closed-doors agreement to keep Rhodes at the club for another year before getting his chance in the country’s top division.
So it remains to be seen whether Rhodes will arrive at Portman Road next season or not.
If he is, he will be afforded a warm reception by the home fans, even if they will be privately fearing the worst.

It's just all a bit of a snooze really. It's done and I honestly don't see how it helps to keep going over it. Try and get excited about the new season not droning on about history.

We shall never know but would he have scored 40 goals for ITFC? If so, we might now be in the Premiership. Or the club could be millions of pounds better off if he was sold. A waste either way that RK should be ashamed of.

Jordan Rhodes is EXCEPTIONAL, that is why it will never be forgotten. Also, Dean has done fine, and the use if him as a failure, as it were, is ridiculous. It also perpetuates the utter idiocy of the decision not to go for category one academy status, as the whole thing would be self-funding, based on the production of just one decent player, every three years. Utterly absurd, and my heart sank the day that Jordan left, and nothing since has repaired that damage. Still, we bought Marcus Stewart from them, so maybe we had it coming.

Mike Rotch I doubt very much that this will make the decision for them on the youth academy. For every Jordan Rhodes there are 100's Dean Bowditch's or Darryl Knights'. How far shall we go back with regards to sold youngsters? Every club makes mistakes. We just need to learn from it, get over it and look forward to it rather than keep rehashing it because its a slow day at the office.

Fascinating. Do I think Rhodes is all wonderful? Yes, probably but he is playing in a decent team at Huddersfield which must be respected.

Redhotitfc – the subject of Jordan Rhodes will continue to be brought up and rightly so, if for no other reason then to remind the current powers-that-be at Portman Road the value of our youth system and what it could do for this club in the long-term if they could see beyond the end of their noses.

Old news. Who really cares anymore we need to look forward not back and this just keeps popping up again and again in this paper. Do some proper reporting and stop lagging behind other media agencies.

Well, I would be surprised if he was back, although if he were to return, and score, he would get a huge cheer, as he is incredibly popular at Portman Road

Never mind the unlikely prospect of Rhodes still being there to terrorise a Town defence made up of players bought or loaned in bulk from the footballing equivalent of lastminute dot com, what about Alan Lee?
