IPSWICH TOWN: Could Big Frank be the answer to the Blues’ goal-scoring woes?

One goal in six hours of Championship football has thrust Frank Nouble into the limelight, following his hat-trick for Town’s reserves in the 4-3 victory over their Colchester United counterparts, in midweek.

A big majority of Blues supporters think it’s time the youngster was handed a maiden start, at home to Leicester City this weekend, with 74% of more than 700 fans voting in our online poll, believing the Londoner is the man to tame the Foxes.

Mick McCarthy described the 21-year-old as a work in progress but having watched the striker’s display against the U’s, the Blues boss cannot have failed to be impressed.

Town aren’t exactly shipping goals either, at the moment though, and the likes of David McGoldrick have been asked to play more withdrawn roles recently, sacrificing personal performances to grind out points, like the one earned at Huddersfield last weekend.

Nouble has displayed a willingness to put defenders under pressure in his brief cameos for the first team but has yet to be tested over a prolonged period, and Championship rearguards will offer far more of an examination than the one he faced on Monday.

However, he has certainly started tongues wagging among fans, who are desperate to see Town score the goals that would go a long way towards securing their Championship survival.

And Nouble is certainly living up to the comments he made when he moved to Ipswich last month.

“Whether it be in training, coming on for five minutes, or starting – I’m desperate to take my chances when they come along,” he said.

  • Well if the EADT are to continue with such worthless polls why do we not have one asking what ITFC fans think of the EADT reporting on Town? Might also ask just how much attention does EADT think McCarthy will pay to their polls and even if he bothers to read the EADT. Even the Daily Star has more worthwhile content!!!

  • Who cares about a stupid poll they mean nothing. The only thing that counts is what happens on the pitch.

  • Cyril - a 5% poll is pretty good - & likely to be accurate within a couple of percentage points. With any opinion poll it would be rare to get a sample of anything above 5% as this is regarded as a good indicator. The only point I would concede is that this question is only likely to get a response from those who are interested enough to care - & overall therefore there may be a few 'don't knows' to factor into the equation. Having said that 73% of those who care enough to give a reply gives a fairly good indication of the feelings of true fans. I do of course include you as a true fan - not because I agree with you but rather because you feel strongly enough to state your views.

  • OK Chris you claim the fans have spoken, how many fans is that. All you have is 73% of those that use your Poll which I suggest is no more than 1000 (generous} and therefore would be less than 5% of itfc supporter base.

  • LOOK,you can stick anyone of five up front but if they don't get the service they will never score,we have to sort the midfield now.Stick cresswell in midfield,he could just be a Gareth bale.!!Worth a try.

  • Mark, you will see from the comments you do not have much support, and please tell me where I have ever attacked the team, my area of complaint is the owner, and negative comments from the eadt.

  • On this logic why doesn't MM play the whole team that beat Colchester? Probably because this result is no guarantee of the team's or any individual's ability to repeat it at Championship level - especially with the pressure of a relegation battle. Give Nouble a chance by all means but don't start expecting too much based on one performance.

  • Cyril how come you are getting agitated about poll numbers when yesterday you took the novel approach that your vote was worth more than anyone elses'? Your estimate of 1,000 is just a tad high... the true number will be nearer 30... but hey maybe your vote takes it from 30 to 1000 if the EADT fall into line with your modesty and thinking.

  • To be fair, Mick has been giving him a chance as late sub and he's yet to prove that he's worthy of a start at this level regardless of what h's achieved at a lower level. We're not creating many chances because Mick is concentrating on getting the defence right and he's right to make that the priority.

  • Cyril. NOW you mention a thousand. If you had ever been involved in economics or statistics you would doubtless know that you will NEVER get everybody to take part in any such vote. You can only report and analyse the given figures. Why can't you just get behind your team (assuming ITFC is your team) ?

  • It does not matter who we play up front it is the service to the front men that is the concern, I don't think even van persie would score with the service that our strikers receive, so lets stop who is best up front stuff they cannot score because they dont receive credible chances. Just look at jason Scotland suddenly he is hitting the net each week that is because his team mates are creating chances for him and if the strikers get chances most of them will score. Lets just stop this silly stories of who is best up front etc and let MM do his job. WE Need someone who will create chances on either wing or from the midfield the present players just dont cut it in this regard so it is there were we have the problem !!
