Michael Chopra’s troubled time at Ipswich Town has come to an end today with the striker signing a one-year deal at Championship rivals Blackpool.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The EADT understands that the 29-year-old came to an agreement over a financial settlement over the remaining 12 months of his three-year at Portman Road.

Having seen a move to Barnsley fall through last week, Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones – Chopra’s boss at former club Cardiff – declared his interest, but it is Paul Ince who has managed to do a deal.

Chopra – who scored 19 goals in 56 starts and 26 substitute appearances for the Blues – wrote on social networking website Twitter: “Would like to thank ipswich town football club and there fans for the support they have given me in the last 2 years.”

A huge image of Chopra currently occupies the space above the ticket office at Ipswich train station, with fans already debating as to whose image should replace it. Cast your vote here.

- What do you think? Can Chopra be a 20-goal-a-season striker in the Championship again? Do the Blues need a replacement striker? Post a comment below.

  • Look to the future, Tommy Smith, a prime example and I would recommend him. Carlos has had his share of plaudits and well deserved. For the better part of others reports the least said, it doesn't help anyone to read negative bu!!!s@t. Keep the faith and think positive.

  • It would be far more appropriate for a certain poster on here to call himself Boneheaded budgie. The Boneheaded because of the stupid remarks he makes and budgie because this bird suitably represents the small frail club that he supports.

  • Well I hope he enjoys the penny slot machines up there, as that's all he has left to rub together nowadays....allegedly. Has Ipswich actually got any historical figures outside of the football club & then there's only two, both managers. How about another famous criminal, there must be others around the town.

  • Well we were pleased to have him when he scored goals but I think he was a disruption of discipline in the team towards the end. He'll never kick gambling any more than Gazza will kick the booze sadly. We do need a 20+ striker - pity we got rid of one or two in less enlightened times.

Well then, allowing for environmental change and idio idiosyncratic human behaviorism's I think we should be on the lookout for someone from the lower leagues or go poaching in the Netherlands again! How we must those exquisitely crafted football technicians and there are plenty out there that don't have to cost an arm or a leg!
