Ipswich Town target Steve Davies admits he is leaving Derby County

STEVE Davies has opened the door to a possible reunion with Paul Jewell after confirming on Twitter that he is leaving Derby County.
The 24-year-old striker has been tracked by Ipswich this summer although reports earlier this month that Town had tested the water with an initial £500,000 bid appear a little wide of the mark.
Writing a message to Derby fans on Twitter this afternoon, Davies said: “Sorry guys and girls. Unfortunately I am leaving and I know people are sceptical but it is honestly for family reasons.
“Me and my family have loved it here and I have loved playing for #dcfc (Derby County FC) but it’s time to move on- you have been great fans thankyou. My family are actually from London so I think it will be down south but not 100% just yet. Thanks for the support.”
Davies is out of contract next summer, but Clough will still hold out for the possible fee for a striker that is highly-regarded at Pride Park though has suffered a number of injuries, including a a fractured skull and cruciate knee ligament damage.
This has seen Davies make little more than 50 starts during his four seasons at the club, scoring 21 goals – 12 of which came last season.
Jewell is a known admirer of Davies having brought the fellow Liverpudlian to Derby for a potential tribunal fee of £725,000 from Tranmere Rovers in 2008.
