FIFTY years ago this week, Ipswich Town shocked the footballing world.
Having won the old Division Two just 12 months before, Alf Ramsey’s team of ‘has-beens’ and ‘misfits’ were then crowned the best team in England after winning the top flight at the first time of asking.
Today, in a special eight-page supplement inside the Ipswich Star and EADT, we pay tribute to that incredible achievement – one that will surely never be done again.
Find out:
- What made Alf Ramsey tick from the men who knew him most
- The secret behind the phenomenal partnership of Ray Crawford and Ted Phillips
- Plus much, much more from the players, fans and the staff from that incredible time

Tom, I think expectations were raised but not fulfilled, next season's attendances will be interesting to see.

Rob, there are more people watching the Town now than in the late 1990s when we had a club before the "sell out". Average gates were 10-13,000 then, now they are 16-18,000. How do you figure that one out.

More pertinently it is now five years since the sell out and a whole generation of 'fans' now have no knowledge of what it is like to have a football club to support
