IPSWICH Town chief executive Simon Clegg has said carrying the Olympic Torch in the Lake District today was “almost a spiritual experience.”
Clegg, who managed Team GB athletes at 12 Olympic and Olympic Winter Games, including leading Team GB to 4th place in the Beijing Olympic medal table, ran a leg of the Olympic Torch relay in Keswick.
He said: “This was a particularly special almost spiritual experience for me.
“The Olympic flame is highly symbolic and I’m proud that the project that we started in 1997 has brought communities together throughout the UK to celebrate this ‘once in a generation’ experience.
“The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London will be an awesome display of physical ability and will have a lasting impact on so many people who will be directly or indirectly involved.”

My hope, though, is that he would leave carrying Paul Jewell.

Being completely honest, as long as Clegg leaves ITFC, he can carry whatever he likes.

Where does Simon Clegg live then? - the runners are selected to run within an hours travelling distance of their home. Now he has done his Olympic torch running, just the Olympic watching to do and then back to his real job of CEO of ITFC. No chance of signing up any new players in time for the pre-season training then?

Lucky Lake DIstrict to get hot air from Greece and Ipswich - what did they do to deserve such a fate? Pity he can't carry the wretchedly overpriced and overhyped torch to Guam - and stay there.
