Aaron Cresswell has revealed how the dressing room was united in helping Mick McCarthy gain revenge on former club Wolves after Town’s 2-0 win on Saturday.
Ten months after being sacked by the Molineux club, McCarthy remained dignified throughout – and was treated to warm applause before and after the match by the home fans.
Cresswell admitted McCarthy tapped into his past knowledge to help mastermind the three points to continue the Blues’ fantastic festive period.
The left-back, who opened the scoring with a collector’s item right-footed strike before DJ Campbell sealed the points, said: “That was for the manager.
“It was nice for him to come back and get a good reception and obviously for us to get the three points.
“Mick did a good job in his six years at Wolves. He knew most of the players here, he worked with them for years so that helped.
“But we weren’t going to come here and change our game. We played the same way as we have for most of the last 12 games and now we are one of the form teams in the league.”
In little short of two months, McCarthy has performed heroics in leading the then-Championship’s rock-bottom club to 19th, eight points clear of the bottom three.
But being just 10 points from the top-six, following seven wins from his dozen games, some supporters are dreaming that the meteoric form under the manager could lead to a dream ending in 2013.
Cresswell added: “Everyone knows his style of play, we have passed the ball well at times, and every game we have played we have fought really hard.
“There is no reason why we can’t keep pushing up the league and see where we finish up at the end of the season.”
Town now host Brighton tomorrow afternoon (3pm ko) knowing a win could push them further up the Championship.

Rob Steroo is an anagram of sore robot. Ipswich Town always makes him sore and his comments are robotically predictable so that's quite apt really.

Please could Steroo explain why, when Norwich is doing well, under an excellent manager, he feels compelled constantly to leave posts of grinding negativity on this site? Is there nothing that can make him happy?

We actually did really well to win against Wolves. They are a strong side with decent players and a tough ground to go to. Clearly Steroo was too busy claiming Norwich were 'unlucky' to lose against a 10 man, poor Man City side at home - rather than watching a team he claims to 'support'.

Actually the wolves win was unavoidable. Wolves are now so utterly useless you could be forgiven for thinking Jewell or Burley at their most inept were their manager.
