Lincoln boss Danny Cowley and former Ipswich Town captain Tony Mowbray continue to top bookmakers’ lists for the soon-to-be-vacant Ipswich Town job.
With Mick McCarthy departing at the end of his contract in the summer, Lincoln boss Cowley remains the 2/1 favourite but has already insisted he is focussing solely on the League Two promotion race with the Imps rather than discussing any potential Ipswich move.
Mowbray, who scored at Wembley as the Blues won promotion to the top flight in 2000, is also in the thick of a promotion race as he bids to lead Blackburn back to the Championship at the first time of asking. His odds are as short as 7/2 with some bookmakers.
Also on the bookies’ lists are recently fired West Brom boss Alan Pardew and Wigan manager Paul Cook, both available at 4/1, former Ipswich Town striker Shefki Kuqi (7/1), ex-Rangers manager Mark Warburton (6/1) and VVV Venlo boss Maurice Steijn (12/1).
Kuqi was at yesterday’s game with Millwall, having also witnessed the recent matches with Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Hull, while Ireland manager Martin O’Neill was also at Portman Road. Rather than any link to the Ipswich job, though, it’s more likely the former Aston Villa manager was in Suffolk to check on the progress of Ireland players Stephen Gleeson and Aiden O’Brien.
Latest odds (at time of writing, best odds available): 2/1 Danny Cowley; 7/2 Tony Mowbray; 4/1 Alan Pardew, Paul Cook; 6/1 Mark Warburton; 7/1 Shefki Kuqi; 8/1 Simon Grayson; 10/1 Steve McClaren, 12/1 Maurice Steijn; 14/1 Gus Poyet; 16/1 Frank Lampard, Jaap Stam, John McGreal; 20/1 Mauricio Taricco; 22/1 Nathan Jones; 25/1 Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Nigel Pearson, Paul Tisdale, Brian McDermott
