ROY Keane, even in his darkest days last season, never felt that his days as a manager were numbered.

Keane is currently on the crest of a wave, with his Ipswich Town side flying high in third spot after an unbeaten run stretching to six league and cup games.

But the Town boss is not a man to be fooled by results, or league positions.

He never felt that he had mastered the role of a football manager at his previous club Sunderland, despite guiding the Black Cats into the Premier League, so he’s not going to start resting on his laurels at Portman Road.

“I’ve done nothing in the game,” insisted Keane.

“Even when I got lucky a little bit at Sunderland, with the players and the staff, and we got promoted, I never felt for one minute that I had it cracked.

“Just as last year, with all the doom and gloom (no win for first 14 league games), I never thought that I was finished as a manager.

“Now because we’ve had a decent start, I don’t think all of a sudden that I’m the new (Fabio) Capello or (Roman) Ancelotti or (Sir Alex) Ferguson, or all these other brilliant managers.”

  • Roy keane you are far to modest. So last season was no great shakes and alot of high expectations and belief of premiership status did not bear frutition. However where some may have walked and not stood up to close scrutiny and critisism aimed at them some perhaps rightly so, you have certainly not. For all the slates and negative reaction of the previous season, i have always failed to see how a return to premiership status can be achieved in just one season. In my eyes that is almost ludicrous. For a sad minority to much far to soon notto mention no sound foundation to build and maintain that status will only ensure another backward step for ITFC. What you did at Sunderland in one season Roy Keane was nothing short of miraculous and the application and commitment from that squad must have been something else. Many believe you can take ITFC forward and you despite a minority of dissenters are right for the managers post. keep on and in the long run the results and dare i say achievements i am sure will be to the majorities liking cheers Roy!

  • Your modesty is overwhelming Roy Superman Keane and you certainly live up to your tag (superman). I think Marcus Evans, should give you an open cheque and contract to stay at town forever, you are so so wonderful and the greatest manager ever to be at Ipswich.

  • Dear Mr Keane, We all appreciate there is a long way to go, but I'm sure the view of many fans is that for all you didn't achieve at the beginning of last season you are certainly making up for with results at the start of this season. Although I am a 'realist', bordering on the 'pessimist', I am just relishing being joint top of the league and not having to scroll down the table to see us rooted near the bottom! I certainly have no doubt at all that one day you will be as brilliant a manager as Sir Alex, and indeed, after the experience you gain at Ipswich Town, you may even be ready to take over at Man U when Sir Alex eventually retires. Their gain will be our loss.
